A 20-year-old man has been booked on a second-degree murder charge as the suspect in a Maryvale slaying, Phoenix police said.

Miguel Angel Rievoles Perez turned himself in to Border Patrol agents Friday night at the Nogales Port of Entry, according to a release.

He was turned over to detectives and booked into the Maricopa County Jail on the murder charge and for discharging a firearm in city limits.

Authorities responded about 9:55 a.m. July 24 to a shooting near 48 th Avenue and Holly Street where they found Jose Perez Olvera, 62, with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Phoenix Fire Department personnel.

Officers spoke with several witnesses and learned that the “known adult male suspect” left prior to the arrival of law enforcement.
