Dawn Staley Goes Viral for Reversing Position on Keeping Caitlin Clark off Team USA

Legendary coach Dawn Staley backtracked, for the first time, on USA Basketball's decision to not pick Caitlin Clark for the U.S. Women’s National Team ahead of the Paris Olympics. She made it clear that if the organization picked the team all over again, Clark would be on it.

“The way that she’s playing, she would be in really high consideration for making the team because she is playing head and shoulders above a lot of people.”

Staley was an integral part of the United States' Olympic success over the years. She won gold medals as a player in 1996, 2000 and 2004 and one as a coach in 2021. She is the first person to win the Naismith Award as both a player and a coach.

Staley's public comments are significant because she was one of five committee members who had a say in picking the 12-person women's roster. Leaving the projected WNBA rookie of the year off the team was heavily scrutinized and criticized. However, it seems Clark has changed Staley’s mind after her recent performance for the Indiana Fever .
