Tua Tagovailoa has a cringy moment at Dolphins practice on Sunday after receiving contract extension

The Miami Dolphins and QB Tua Tagovailoa tied the knot through the 2028 season on Friday afternoon.  The sides reached an agreement on a 4-year, $212.4 million contract extension with $167 million guaranteed.

No one is more excited about it than Tua , obviously.  That's a GDP-worth of dough coming into his pockets, as has been customary this season with a number of high-profile quarterbacks.

However, the Dolphins' new very wealthy star sure enjoyed reminding everyone about it on Sunday at the team's first open practice of training camp.  Tua grabbed the microphone and chanted "show me the money" to the fans in attendance as part of a brief shoutout to the crowd.

While some might defend it as a moment of excitement (which point I get), it still seems a little bit too much of a "look at me" moment, particularly given the Dolphins have a handful of players kneeling right behind him who are yet to get paid.

Further, as many pointed out in Twitter/X responses, Tua still has something significant to prove as the Dolphins' QB.  Not individual statistics as much, that is.  He's filled up the stat sheet over the last two seasons.

It's about proving he can win the big games.  Beat the good teams.  Beat the Buffalo Bills (who may or may not qualify for the category in the previous sentence this year).  Win the team's first division title since 2008, the season Tom Brady missed with a knee injury.

And, y'know, win their first playoff game since Bill Clinton was in office.

Stephen Ross and Chris Grier paid Tagovailoa to win those games, something the other 2024 QB extendees have done. Jordan Love has done it. Jared Goff has done it. Even Trevor Lawrence has a playoff win.

Start winning those, and then the right to beat your chest and celebrate contractual figures will be much more warranted.  Heck, it would be welcomed with open arms after a deep playoff run.

However, until that time, those that say "show me a playoff win first" have every right to shake their heads.
