Gymnast Jade Carey Sends Strong Message After Heartbreaking Fall During Olympics

The women's national gymnastics team ultimately dominated the qualifying round of 2024 Paris Olympics, however, things got off to a rough start for Jade Carey, who was clearly not herself.

Carey, who won the individual gold medal on floor at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, took a heartbreaking fall after one of her passes which left viewers stunned.

During the U.S. Gymnastics Trials last month, Carey earned a 14.150 on the floor. Carey earned a 10.633 for her uncharacteristically abysmal performance in Paris, making her ineligible to defend her gold medal during the individual floor final on August 5.

The 24-year-old later revealed that she's battling through an illness. She posted on X, "i haven’t been feeling the best the past few days but i gave it everything i had today. thank you for all the support i have received. i’m so grateful."

Shaking off her floor routine, Carey rallied to perform an incredible vault. She earned a 14.433, which qualified her to compete in the individual finals on August 3. Team USA earned the highest overall score of the day, and will be the country to beat in the finals on July 30.

Carey sent another heartfelt message to fans on Threads. She wrote , "all heart 🤍 not the day i was expecting to have but i can’t thank you all enough for the love and support. i am so proud of this team and what we accomplished today. we’re not done yet 🫶."

Hopefully, Carey starts feeling better soon. She told Olympics.com that she hasn't been able  eat over the past few days. "I had, like, no energy today and didn't really have a sense of what was going on in my head," Carey said. "So, I just kind of wanted people to know that so, they know that there's actually something wrong."
