Panamanian Gymnast Accomplishes Rare Feat Only Achieved By Simone Biles

Simone Biles is referred to as the GOAT of gymnastics for good reason.

So the fact that Panama’s Hillary Heron accomplished something on Sunday at the Paris Olympics that only Biles had ever done is quite the achievement for the 20-year-old gymnast.

During the floor routine part of Sunday’s gymnastics qualifier, Heron completed what’s called the “Biles I,” a difficult tumbling move in which she performed a double layout with a half-twist, becoming the only person aside from Biles herself to land the move in international competition.

“I think it’s the floor routine of my life, just so much work that has gone into that floor that many people wouldn’t believe, hours and hour and hours and trusting myself,” Heron told Olympics.com . “I couldn’t believe I had done it, and I had done it just as I imagined it when I was four years old.”

Perhaps even more impressive is the fact that Heron landed the move while competing against Biles during qualifying. Heron finished 36th overall.

The Biles I is just one of five elements named after Biles, who could add a sixth namesake element when she competes in the uneven bars final on Aug. 4. If she does, Biles would be the only active gymnast with an element named after her in all four gymnastic events.
