St. Joseph County is preparing for lane restrictions on Ash Road Bridge and Twyckenham Bridge starting the week of July 29, due to rescheduled bridge inspections. The need for these inspections arose from equipment failures encountered during recent evaluations.

The inspections will involve the use of a specialized "SNOOPER" truck, a piece of equipment that allows inspectors to extend a boom and access the underside of the bridges for thorough assessments. This detailed inspection process is crucial for maintaining the safety and integrity of these structures.

On Monday, July 29, lane restrictions will be implemented as follows:

    • Ash Road Bridge: The southbound shoulder will be closed from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Northbound shoulder restrictions will occur from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on the same day, and continue from 8 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, July 30.
    • Twyckenham Bridge: The southbound left turn lane at Lincolnway will be closed from 8 a.m. to approximately noon on Monday, July 29. During this time, the sidewalk along the west side of the bridge will also be closed to pedestrians.

These lane restrictions are part of the county’s ongoing commitment to ensuring the structural safety of its bridges. Residents are advised to plan alternative routes and anticipate potential delays during these inspection periods.
