It took until late in the day on Saturday, but in the last swimming race of Saturday night, the U.S. took its first gold medal of the 2024 Olympics, winning the 4×100-meter freestyle relay behind a foursome of Chris Guiliano, Jack Alexy, Hunter Armstrong and Caeleb Dressel.

The United States, at 3:09.28 finished a little over a second ahead of Australia, which took silver with a 3:10.35.

Swimming has always been a highly anticipated sport to watch due to the record-breaking times achieved by past Olympians. According to the official Olympics website, “At the Olympic Games, swimming events are held in a pool measuring 50 metres in length. The four strokes of Olympic swimming events—for both individual and relay races—are breaststroke, butterfly, backstroke, and front crawl; the front crawl is predominantly used in freestyle races, and as such the term freestyle is often used as a synonym for front crawl.”

Now that the Paris Olympics are underway, we will be putting together a series of articles focusing on some of the more niche markets taking place throughout the Olympic Games. While sports such as basketball, golf and tennis are more common, there are markets such as track and field and swimming that I have found an interest in following due to edges that exist in the betting space. In the opening week of the Olympic Games, we’ll be focusing on swimming, while the second week we will turn to track and field.
