Above the surface, water polo looks like “a lot of arms and a lot of shoulders,” says Team USA water polo captain Maggie Steffens . But what happens below the water is key: it’s all about legs and core.

Steffens and her teammates help debunk water polo misconceptions like this ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics , where the team is chasing its fourth consecutive gold medal. This is also Steffens’ fourth Games.

The women’s water polo team already found the spotlight this year when Flavor Flav committed to funding the team in Paris . The rapper commented on an Instagram post from Steffens in May, where she wrote about the importance of sponsors for travel, accommodations, and more to “increase exposure of female teams & female athletes.” Flav responded by writing, “imma sponsor the whole team. My manager is in touch with your agent and imma use all my relationships and resources to help all y’all even more. That’s a FLAVOR FLAV promise.”
