SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — At least one person was killed in a car crash early Monday morning in Springfield Township, Montgomery County.

It happened before 5 a.m. in the Wyndmoor section of Springfield Township. Two vehicles flipped onto their passenger sides and landed on the grass by the intersection of Stenton and Evergreen avenues.

A red Hyundai Elantra landed near a tree, with its front windshield smashed. The front bumper was in the middle of the road and the back bumper was 20 feet to its left. The front of a white Infiniti SUV was also smashed, and a deployed front airbag was visible.

A tire from one of the cars flew across the street. One person was killed and at least three people were taken to the hospital. The extent of their injuries is not clear.

Stenton Avenue remains closed off at Evergreen Avenue. Officials with the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office took the deceased victim’s body around 8 a.m.

Police are still investigating the cause of the crash.

Neighbors who live by this intersection say it’s a dangerous one — drivers often fly by and run red lights. Even if they get the green light to turn onto Stenton Avenue, residents say they wait a few seconds, just in case.
