Simone Biles gave the United States and gymnastics fans everywhere quite the scare during women's qualifying on Sunday.

Biles landed awkwardly during her floor routine warmup, suffering an injury to her lower leg. The all-time great gymnast left the floor with a limp before returning with her left calf heavily taped.

Biles put forth a gritty performance after suffering this injury, fighting through the pain to finish with the No. 1 spot in qualifying.

After the event, Biles was asked if she was alright.

"As good as I can be," she replied.

Biles clearly isn't 100% as she looks to further her legacy as the greatest gymnast of all time. That being said, her injury-ridden performance was more than enough to take the lead heading into Tuesday's team final.

Details regarding Biles' calf injury are scarce. Her coach Cecile Landi was asked about the injury after qualification. Landi said Biles never considered pulling out of the competition.

“She felt a little something in her calf, but, um, yeah, that’s all,” Landi said.

Biles has a day off to recover as the men compete in their team final on Monday. The women's team final will take place on Tuesday.
