‘A dedicated public servant’: Anderson County Law Director passes away

CLINTON, Tenn. (WATE) — The Anderson County Law Director died after more than two decades in office. Jay Yeager passed away Friday, July 26 after nearly 23 years with the county.

A statement from the county said that Yeager was a “dedicated public servant” and a respected legal professional. He worked for Anderson County since October 29, 2001.

“His expertise and leadership significantly contributed to our community. He was a constant presence at meetings, active in the operations of government, and his legacy will be felt for years to come,” reads a statement from County Mayor Terry Frank, Chairman Tyler Mayes, and members of the Anderson County Board of Commissioners. “His contributions extended beyond his professional role; he was a mentor, a colleague, and a friend to many. In his committed dedication to his work, he built relationships that he held for a lifetime. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Mr. Yeager’s family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.”

A visitation for Yeager will be held on Aug. 1, 2024, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Unicoi Funeral Home, 4428 Unicoi Drive, Unicoi, TN, with the funeral service to follow. Following the funeral, he will be interned at Roselawn Memory Gardens, 3033 South Roan Street in Johnson City.

The law director acts as the attorney and general counsel for the county government, its officials and employees. According to the county’s website, the law director’s office defends the county against lawsuits and brings legal action to enforce county regulations and delinquent tax collections.
