Aaron Rodgers Earns New Nickname From Jets Teammate During Training Camp

Aaron Rodgers is entering his second season with the New York Jets. The future Hall-of-Fame quarterback has still yet to play a full game as a member of Gang Green, though, after missing all of 2023 due to a ruptured Achilles suffered early in the home opener.

You can forgive his Jets teammates, then, for being left slack-jawed by the football IQ Rodgers has exhibited early in training camp. Veteran tight end Tyler Conklin has even bestowed Rodgers with an unofficial new nickname that speaks to his strategic mastery.

"He's like the Oppenheimer of football," Conklin told reporters after Monday's practice, per Andy Vasquez of NJ Advance Media .

Rodgers and the Jets are setting the bar high for success in 2024. In wake of an ugly 7-10 campaign that called the organization's direction into stark question, New York is once again dreaming big this season with Rodgers back in the fold.

"The goal is [Super Bowl XLIV host] New Orleans, it has to be the goal," Rodgers said last week, per Evan Massey of New York Jets on SI . "The beauty is, every single year there's eight to 12 teams, maybe, probably less, but 8-12 teams that can actually do it. We're one of those eight to 12."

We'll find out soon if that boast proves as prophetic as Conklin and Rodgers' other teammates surely seem to believe.
