As we enter the final month of the college football offseason, CBSSports' Josh Pate revealed his Top 25 power ratings for the 2024 season.
Highlighting the No. 1 team in Pate's power ratings are the Georgia Bulldogs, who boast an improved backfield with the infusion of transfer running back Trevor Etienne behind returning quarterback Carson Beck.
Ohio State, Oregon, Texas, and Alabama complete Pate's top five. The Buckeyes are primed to make a run at their first national championship since 2014 with a roster stacked with some of the game's best talent.
With Nick Saban retired at Alabama and Kalen DeBoer serving as the program's new head coach, the Crimson Tide earned the No. 5 spot in Pate's ratings.
Texas looks to continue as one of the hottest programs in the nation after winning the Big 12 and making it to the College Football Playoff a year ago. Quinn Ewers and the Longhorns will be entering their first season in the SEC this fall.
Oregon, which also had a nice 2023 but fell short of the CFP, left the Pac-12 and is headed to the Big Ten.
The defending national champion, Michigan Wolverines, come in at No. 11 on the list, which comes as a bit of a surprise for a program who hoisted the College Football Playoff trophy six months ago. The Wolverines do enter the season with Sherrone Moore as full-time head coach and do not quite yet have a bonified starter at the quarterback position. The program returns running back Donovan Edwards as well as defensive stars Mason Graham, Josaiah Stewart and Will Johnson.
