The 30-year-old diving champion, who had the honour of being Team GB's Flagbearer at this year's Olympic opening ceremony in Paris , has previously opened up about the upheaval his family faced when Oscar-winning scriptwriter Dustin was accused of assaulting BBC presenter Teddy Edwardes at a Soho bar in August 2022.
Teddy took Dustin to court in 2023, and the ensuing distress led the husbands to start anew in LA with their two children. Here, we take a look at gold medallist Tom's new life stateside, including his spouse's fiery feud with Sam Smith.
CCTV footage shown at Westminster Magistrates' Court depicted the pair in a heated argument at the bar while Tom and Teddy's ex, Love Island star Amber Gill, watched in disbelief. Teddy alleged that Dustin had seized her wrist, but District Judge Louisa Cieciora criticised inconsistencies in her evidence.
"Ms Edwardes said she didn't see a difference between her drink being spilt and Mr Black grabbing her wrist, that the outcome is the same," the judge remarked. "But there is a difference. The charge was brought on Mr Black having grabbed her wrist. Grabbing a glass does not amount to an assault."
Dustin, who reportedly lost around £600,000, expressed his frustration in a Guardian interview back in February: "This is no longer, you know, do I like or dislike a place? I think that the crown and the Government owe me an apology... I think they also owe me a lot of money."
In a heartfelt open letter to his supporters, Tom described the ordeal as 'some of the worst months of our lives', adding: "This unjust course of action has been of course, hardest and most damaging for Lance, whose resilience astonishes me. You continue to be the best Dad to our two children and your support for my return to diving has been amazing."
The family relocated to Los Angeles , where they live with their sons Robbie, six, and Phoenix, one. The couple's romance began at a dinner party in LA and they tied the knot in May 2017 at Bovey Castle in Devon.
"It was a real love-at-first-sight thing," Tom shared with the Observer. "The first night, I took him to meet my friends and said: 'This is my boyfriend'. The next night we went on our first date. The next night he asked me to be his boyfriend. The night after that, after a couple of lychee martinis, he told me he loved me."
Tom and Dustin have shared a new video on their YouTube channel, capturing the moment Robbie joined them for a hike in the Hollywood Hills, with Tom at the helm of Phoenix's pram. Dustin, who relocated to California at the tender age of 13, expressed he was 'very, very proud' of his son for earning the title of 'the kindest child in the grade'.
The pair may have had an immediate spark, but they've weathered their share of challenges. When Sam Smith snagged the Oscar for Best Original Song in 2016 and incorrectly claimed they were the first openly gay man to win an Oscar, Dustin didn't hesitate to correct the record.
Taking to Twitter, he posted: "Hey @SamSmithWorld," alongside a clip of his own Oscar triumph seven years earlier, adding, "If you have no idea who I am, it may be time to stop texting my fiance."
In a candid chat with Attitude Magazine's podcast, Tom revealed, "Our relationship is far from perfect," admitting that they've endured "We have really tough times and struggles."
After a two-year hiatus, Tom is set to make history as the first British diver to participate in five consecutive Olympic Games. He's teaming up with 24-year-old Noah Williams, following his previous gold medal partner Matty Lee's step back due to spinal surgery.
Tom also holds the distinction of being the first Team GB diver honoured with the role of Flagbearer at the Olympic opening ceremony.
