    Corrections and clarifications

    • We referred to Gavin Newsom as a potential running mate for his fellow Californian Kamala Harris’s bid for the US presidency. The California governor has been mentioned in that regard but the 12th amendment of the US constitution presents a hurdle as it bars electoral college members casting votes for two candidates from their own state. Also, 1938 was the year Harris’s father was born in Jamaica, not the year when he went to study at Berkeley. And it is Black male offenders, not all Black offenders, whose sentences are on average 20% longer than those of white male offenders ( Everything you need to know about Kamala Harris , 23 July, G2, p6).

    • An article in our print edition relating to the assassination attempt against Donald Trump (Man, 20, was registered Republican and bullied in high school, 15 July, p3) was mistakenly accompanied by an image from a spoof video of an individual pretending to be the named suspect.
