    USA head coach Steve Kerr.

Steve Kerr is facing significant criticism . His decision to bench Jayson Tatum for Team USA's Olympic opener against Serbia has caused quite a stir, even though his team won 110-84.

During a news conference on Sunday, Kerr confirmed that Tatum will play in Wednesday's game against South Sudan but refused to confirm which player will take his place on the bench.

"Jayson Tatum will play," Kerr said . "I’m not going to answer your next question, which is if he plays, who doesn’t,” Kerr said. “But we’re going to need him, and part of this job for me is to keep everybody engaged and ready, because my experience with this is crazy stuff happens.”

According to ESPN's Brian Windhorst, who was making an appearance on Monday's episode of "The Pat McAfee show," Bam Adebayo could be at risk of riding the pine against South Sudan.

"There's gonna be other All-Star players who get benched...South Sudan's got a bunch of athletic wing players," Windhorst said. "Tatum's gonna be out there. They're gonna be switching all of those screens because they gotta play the perimeter, and there may be a guy like Bam Adebayo that gets benched."

Adebayo is a defensive star who also thrives as a creation hub on the perimeter. However, he isn't explosive and doesn't have genuine size to protect the rim when playing as a center. Tatum will slide into the rotation and likely play in multiple positions. He's among the best weakside rotation defenders in the world due to his height, length and sneaky explosiveness.

Nevertheless, if Adebyao's role projects to be at the power forward position against South Sudan, then Tatum certainly makes more sense to take those minutes. Still, we won't know if Windhorst's prediction is right until Wednesday, as Kerr is keeping his cards close to his chest.
