Vance versus the single woke females

It is not a coincidence that the Kamala Harris campaign chose to push a years-old video of Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) calling the leadership of the Democratic Party “a bunch of childless cat ladies” the day after she secured enough delegates to be her party's presidential nominee.

What better way to change the subject from the avalanche of videos showing that Harris supports radical leftist ideas such as defunding the police and decriminalizing illegal immigration than to give the liberal media their own culture-war red meat to frenzy on?

Harris’s campaign followed up their attack on Vance by pushing a separate video in which Vance says, “If you are making $100,000 a year, and you’ve got three kids, you should pay a different lower tax rate than if you are making the same amount of money and you don’t have any kids.”

And this is exactly what former President Donald Trump’s Tax Cuts and Jobs Act did when it doubled the child tax credit giving an extra $2,000 to over 40 million families . Trump’s success in cutting taxes for parents was extremely popular and is a big part of the reason why an overwhelming 63% of people approved of Trump’s handling of the economy before COVID.

Harris, of course, supported repealing the Trump tax cuts entirely. Instead, she supported President Joe Biden's own version of a child tax credit. But the way Biden’s policy was designed, it increased marriage penalties , thus making it less likely that children will be raised in the same home as their fathers.

Biden’s anti-marriage tax plan is not the only Democratic Party policy that attacks marriage. The means-tested nature of former President Barack Obama’s Affordable Care Act is also a proven marriage killer . In fact, if you combine all the money spent on means-tested programs (including food stamps, Medicaid, public housing, etc.), the government spends over $1 trillion a year punishing marriage.

And the Democratic Party's anti-marriage agenda doesn’t stop with safety net programs. Women are the main beneficiary of the Democratic Party’s push to prioritize support for college over technical training preferred by men. And the Democrats' catch-and-release border policies drive down wages for men without a college education , while also making it harder for everyone to find suitable mates .

And the Democratic Party’s preference for policies that help single women to the detriment of marriage is not an accident. It is an intentional part of the party’s branding.

Just look at the promotional materials that Democrats use to push their anti-marriage programs. Obama famously used a slideshow featuring a single woman named “Julia” who goes through preschool, then college, then a professional career, all with the help of Democratic programs. Julia even becomes a mother and is again supported by the government. But at no point do we ever see a husband, let alone a man.

Not to be outdone, Biden created his own slideshow when pushing his "Build Back Better" agenda, except this time featuring a single woman named “Linda.” Like Julia, Linda goes through life with the support of Democratic programs. Like Julia, Linda also has a child. And like Julia, Linda raises this child without a husband, or a man, anywhere in sight.

Linda, like Julia before her, was married to the state.

And every time an additional single woman chooses government programs over a real husband, the Democratic Party benefits. Just look at this chart:

Married men, married women, and single men, all narrowly support the Republican Party. It is unmarried women who are the lone outlier keeping the Democratic Party afloat. Democrats have become the party of the single woke female.

And Democrats know this. Democrats also know that thanks to the decline in marriage , unmarried women are the fastest-voting demographic. Unmarried women are more likely to participate in a political rally, volunteer for a campaign, donate to a campaign, and vote than unmarried men .

Research shows that more than any other demographic, single women are the most likely to identify as single women. Researchers have dubbed this mindset a “gender linked fate.” And it is an identity the Democratic Party actively encourages. Just witness the party’s " White Women for Kamala " online event.

And the Democratic Party’s campaign to push women to identify with each other through the Democratic Party, at the expense of their other relationships, is working. Young women are not only far less likely to be married today than in past generations , they are also less likely to be in any romantic relationship and less likely to go to church .

The Democratic Party is a single woke female-making machine.

This push for women to abandon family connections in favor of political ones wouldn’t be so troubling if it was making them happier. But all the evidence shows the exact opposite. Young women, particularly young liberal women , are far less happy now than they were in previous generations.

Too many young women today are embracing the feminist rallying cry popularized by, but not invented by, Gloria Steinem, that “a woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle.”

The reality is that men and women need each other. That is the truth that Vance understands, and that is what he is trying to promote with family-friendly policies that will help young men and women get and stay married.

But Democrats can’t let that happen. More successful marriages means fewer single woke females, which means fewer volunteers, donors, and votes for the Democratic Party.

That is why the Democratic Party is attacking Vance with such disciplined ferocity: they know his promotion of marriage is an existential threat.
