The U.S. women's basketball team began its schedule at the 2024 Paris Olympics with an easy 102-76 win over Japan on Monday. After the matchup, Phoenix Mercury center Brittney Griner was all over social media as fans were in awe of the WNBA veteran's height.

Women's basketball fans reacted to the height difference, making jokes about one of Team USA's biggest assets.

"Japan triple teaming Brittney Griner, and she looks like she’s playing against toddlers (LOL)," said one fan.

"This game is made for Kelsey Plum’s speed and Brittney Griner’s height," explained another fan.

"Brittney Griner vs. Japan is hilarious," commented another.

Griner stands at 6-foot-9 and is listed as the fourth-tallest player in WNBA history. She towered over the Team Japan roster in the match, with their nation's tallest player, Maki Takada, listed at 6-1.

Fans also commented on the massive height advantage that Griner and Team USA had over Team Japan, making an analogy between them and the matchup between two 1990s NBA legends: seven-footer Patrick Ewing and the 5-3 Muggsy Bogues.

Griner finished the game with 11 points and nine rebounds in nearly 16 minutes off the bench. She and the rest of the Team USA squad will be back on the Olympic hardwood against Belgium on Aug. 1 at 3 p.m. ET.
