Liverpool transfer news amid Anthony Gordon latest as $27m bid submitted

Liverpool continues to hold the title as the only Premier League side not to sign a single player this summer but it's beginning to feel like they could lose that crown sooner rather than later.

The Reds continue to be linked with a move for Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon following his impressive campaign last term, although the Magpies are in no rush to sell the star after sorting out their Financial Fair Play issues. However, the 23-year-old is said to be open to a move to Anfield .

Elsewhere, Arne Slot could be about to welcome a new midfielder to the club as Liverpool prepares to bring in a replacement for defensive midfielder Wataru Endo , who was the subject of a recent bid from Marseille . Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today.

    Anthony Gordon (Newcastle)

Liverpool has been linked with Gordon for the majority of the summer but recent reports suggest it is more than just rumors heading into the final month of the transfer window. Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano recently confirmed via his YouTube channel that the Reds still really rate Gordon and remain keen on his services.

The rumors were intensified even more on Sunday when it was claimed Gordon is equally keen on making the switch back to Merseyside ahead of the new season, with a report from The Sunday World stating that the Reds have been given encouragement that Gordon is eager to join them this summer.

It's then added that Liverpool is weighing up a fresh offer that could even include players from Anfield as part of the deal , although it's believed Newcastle is still holding out for a package of up to $129million (£100million/€119million) to even consider selling its prized asset, according to Football Insider .

Liverpool.com says: Gordon would of course be an excellent addition to for the Reds this summer but it's clearly going to take a lot for Newcastle to even consider selling him. Liverpool isn't exactly short on options in attack, so it might be better to invest the money elsewhere.

    Morten Frendrup (Genoa)

A fresh name to crop up in recent days is Morten Frendrup of Genoa, with the Danish midfielder being tipped to become Slot's first signing of the summer as the Reds aim to bolster their midfield options.

The 23-year-old is said to be considered as Wataru Endo's replacement, with the Japanese international the subject of a recent bid from Marseille. However, if the 31-year-old is to leave, it's thought Frendrup will be taking his place in the Anfield dressing room.

That's because a recent report from TuttoMercatoWeb claims the Reds have registered an interest in signing the Genoa star since January and that they have submitted an offer worth $27m (£21m/€25m) in an attempt to tie up a deal, so a move may not be too far off.

Liverpool.com says: Frendrup is a relative unknown at this moment in time but the majority of reports on him point towards good things. His age is also a major advantage, given that he can be a long-term solution to Liverpool's defensive midfielder conundrum, and he won't be too expensive either.
