A fan of Caitlin Clark sounded off a warning to the US women's basketball team, suggesting they might miss the Indiana Fever star against Japan in their opening match at the Paris Olympics.

The ex-Iowa college point guard was notably omitted from Team USA's lineup for the summer Games , sparking debate among sports circles.

The 22-year-old has been showing her mettle in the WNBA this season, boasting an average of 7.1 points and a league-leading 8.2 assists per game.

Despite her commendable performance during her debut WNBA season, it wasn't enough to sway the selectors, resulting in her missing out on the international event in Paris. A fervent Clark supporter refused to accept the snub quietly as the US prepared to face Japan, hoisting a sign that read: "You need Caitlin Clark to beat us.".

This bold forecast, however, did not materialize as A'ja Wilson and Breanna Stewart spearheaded the American squad to a dominant 102-76 victory, kicking off their pursuit of more Olympic gold in fine form. America's women's team, having clinched gold consistently since the Barcelona 1992 Games, is no stranger to the high expectations set upon them for glory in the 2024 Games.

Without Clark on the team, Team USA's remarkable Olympians secured their 56th consecutive win - a streak dating back to the '92 Olympics. Fresh from their commanding showing in Paris, the undefeated group gears up to go against Belgium in Group C, aiming to maintain their formidable run.

Clark seems to have taken her omission from the Games roster in stride, using the disappointment as motivation for the future. She shared: "I think it just gives you something to work for. It's a dream.

"Hopefully one day I can be there. I think it's just a little more motivation," she admitted, setting her sights on the next Olympics. "You remember that. Hopefully when four years comes back around [at the LA Olympics in 2028], I can be there. I'm excited for the girls that are on the team.

""I know it's the most competitive team in the world, and I know it could have gone either way of me being on the team or me not being on the team. I'm excited for them. Going to be rooting them on to win gold. I was a kid that grew up watching the Olympics."

"It'll be fun to watch them. "Clark added: "They called me and let me know before everything came out, which was really respectful of them, and I appreciate that.

"They did the same for every girl that made the team or every girl that didn't make the team. There's a lot of players in the Olympic pool.

"It wasn't like I was the only one they had to call. They had to make quite a few calls."
