When does a baby name cross the line into being too unique?

A mum-to-be recently took to Mumsnet in search of suggestions for her unborn child's name . She confessed her fondness for the name "Lovey," but expressed concerns about its potential lack of professionalism when her daughter grows up .

She posted: "We LOVE the name Lovey for a little girl, but obviously for more professional circumstances/later life it wouldn't be appropriate."

She sought ideas for a longer name that could be shortened to Lovey. While some users offered genuine advice, others criticised the choice of name.

One user proposed to Valentina, drawing a link between Valentine's Day and love.

Another suggested: "You could call her anything at all and just use Lovey the same way you'd use Honey or Sweetheart."

Yet another questioned: "Do you not like your unborn child? Do you have any idea how much a child called Lovey will get teased at school? Grow up."

Some put forward the name "Loveday," but even this suggestion was met with concerns about potential bullying.

"Lovey? Loveday? ! ------- hell, this is a person not a pet bird."
