    Monday

    Rangers (52-55) 6 – Cardinals (54-52) 3

    Pirates (54-52) 5 – Astros (55-51) 3

Nathaniel Lowe hit a two-run homer, Nathan Eovaldi pitched six solid innings, and the Texas Rangers snapped a three-game skid with a 6-3 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday night.

Paul Skenes pitched six innings in a no-decision, allowing one earned run. Michael A. Taylor hit a tiebreaking three-run homer in the ninth off Josh Hader, leading the Pittsburg Pirates over the Houston Astros 6-3 on Monday night.

The NL West-leading Los Angeles Dodgers picked up hard-throwing reliever Michael Kopeck in the three-team deal. Chicago dealt Kopech to the Dodgers, who got utilityman Tommy Edman and a pitching prospect from the Cardinals. Los Angeles sent three infield prospects to the White Sox.

The Astros acquired left-hander Yusei Kikuchi from the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday night. It added a much-needed starter to their injury-ravaged pitching staff as they duel with Seattle and try to hold off Texas in the American League West.

    Tuesday

Rangers (52-55) at St. Louis Cardinals (54-52) at 6:45 pm

Pirates (54-52) at Houston Astros (55-51) at 7:10 pm

    NFL

The NFL announced on Monday that it suspended Texans defensive end Denico Autry for six games for violating its policy against performance-enhancing substances.

    OLYMPICS

Before Monday night, it had been 16 years since the U.S. men’s team had finished on the podium in an Olympic competition. Brody Malone, the only returning Olympian on this team, said the key to Monday’s success was having short-term memories of what happened during Saturday’s qualification. He suffered uncharacteristic falls on the pommel horse and high bar, and the team qualified fifth. The U.S. men won their first team gymnastics medal since ’08; Japan won gold.

American gymnastics star Simone Biles will compete in all four events during Tuesday night’s Olympic team finals. Biles tweaked her left calf during qualifying Sunday while warming up for floor exercise. She briefly retreated to have the calf taped but then returned and posted the top scores on the floor and vault on her way to topping the all-around.

The U.S. women’s volleyball team lost the first two sets to China on Monday in a pool play format where total points and sets won can become playoff tiebreakers. China’s eventual five-set victory, in which both teams scored the same points, left the reigning champions with relief.

The United States women’s basketball team defeated the more minor Japan team 102-76 in the 2021 gold medal game rematch in Tokyo. They have been 56-0 in the Olympics since 1992 and have taken the first step toward winning their eighth consecutive gold medal.

    COLLEGE

Texas A&M University-Commerce senior defensive back Max Epps has been named to the Stats Perform FCS Preseason All-America Team on Monday morning.
