New York Giants Make Big Offensive Line Addition

One of the areas that the New York Giants were determined to fix during the 2024 offseason was the offensive line. Their performance in the trenches in 2023 was abysmal, playing a big part in the offense’s inability to get going consistently.

With star left tackle Andrew Thomas battling injuries, the team struggled without their anchor in the mix. The team was dipping deep into their depth, playing third stringers and practice squad players and getting very little results.

As a result, moves were made in free agency. The New York Giants signed Jermaine Eluemenor and Jon Runyan Jr. to shore things up.

Elumenor started at guard but flipped to right tackle with Evan Neal still recovering from injury. Runyan will be playing guard, likely right guard, where he played with the Green Bay Packers previously.

Looking to ensure there are no weaknesses across the unit, another addition was made on Tuesday. As shared by head coach Brian Daboll, via Jordan Raanan of ESPN , the team has added veteran Greg Van Roten.

The 34-year-old has plenty of experience, starting 71 games in his career. In 2023, he played in all 17 contests for the Las Vegas Raiders as teammates with Eluemenor and under Carmen Bricillo, who is now the New York Giants’ offensive line coach.

Van Roten could step right into the mix at guard to replace Eluemenor, who is playing outside at right tackle. The player to keep a close eye on with these moves is Neal.

It would be fair to say that his starting job is in legitimate jeopardy. Veterans such as Eluemenor and Van Roten provide elite depth and insurance but are going to be in the mix to start along the team’s revamped offensive line.

Even if Van Roten doesn’t start, he is a great pickup by the New York Giants. He has experience playing across all five spots of the offensive line and will help the team out wherever aid may be needed.
