OKLAHOMA CITY ( KFOR ) — Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond has filed a petition against the Statewide Charter School Board, stating board members will be held in contempt if they refuse to rescind the St. Isidore charter school contract.

The petition comes after the June 25 Oklahoma Supreme Court ruling that deemed St. Isidore—the nation’s first publicly-funded religious charter school—unconstitutional.

The now-dissolved Statewide Virtual Charter School Board, which was replaced by the SCSB on July 1, approved a contract with St. Isidore in 2023.

This led to Drummond taking the case to Oklahoma’s highest court, who argued that the contract with St. Isidore would open the door for taxpayer-funded teachings of Sharia Law or Satanism.

On Tuesday afternoon, Drummond commented on the SCSB’s decision not end St. Isidore’s contract in accordance with the Oklahoma Supreme Court ruling.

“Every Oklahoman should be outraged by the board’s blatant hostility toward religious liberty,” Drummond said. “Rather than acting to protect religious liberty, they are recklessly committed to using our tax dollars to fund radical religious teachings like Sharia law. I will continue to protect the religious liberty of all four million Oklahomans by upholding their constitutional rights.”
