The new AEW International Champion, MJF , is set to defend his title against Will Ospreay next month at All In. The feud between MJF and Will Ospreay ignited on the June 26 edition of AEW Dynamite when MJF was in a segment with Daniel Garcia .

MJF proposed a potential match with Garcia at All In, but their plans were interrupted by Will Ospreay. Ospreay announced his own title defense against Garcia, stealing the spotlight from MJF. The segment ended with a tense exchange of glances between MJF and Ospreay.

Following Ospreay’s successful defense of his championship against Daniel Garcia, a shocking turn of events unfolded. After the match, MJF unexpectedly attacked Garcia, leaving him bloodied. Despite Ospreay coming to Garcia’s aid, the damage had already been done.

This ignited a rivalry between MJF and Ospreay, culminating in a near-60-minute epic showdown on the 250th edition of AEW Dynamite, where Maxwell defeated Ospreay to capture the AEW International Championship. Meanwhile, fans anticipated a Maxwell-Daniel Garcia showdown following the brutal attack at All In.

Last week on AEW Dynamite, it was revealed that MJF would defend his title against Ospreay at AEW All In. Interestingly, AEW initially teased a potential MJF-Garcia match. Furthermore, recent reports indicate that the MJF and Ospreay program has been in the works for quite some time.

Will Ospreay vs. MJF at AEW All In was planned for months

A report from Fightful Select behind paywall reveals that AEW had been planning the MJF vs. Will Ospreay match at All In for months, even before Ospreay’s AEW World Championship match against Swerve Strickland at Forbidden Door. AEW considered a one-hour match between Ospreay and Maxwell leading up to their All In clash. The promotion ultimately decided on a long-running feud stretching through the summer. The former AEW World Champion’s return at Double Or Nothing in May was part of this plan.

Last week’s Dynamite saw a shocking moment as Maxwell tossed the International Championship into the trash. Also, he unveiled the new championship called the AEW American Championship.

Reports noted that this move was a strategic tactic to boost the heat on Maxwell before AEW All In in London. Furthermore, the promotion plans to enhance the prestige of the International Championship through this feud.

Thus, MJF is set to defend his American Championship against Ospreay in a highly anticipated rematch at All In next month. The Salt of the Earth will also put his championship on the line against Templario in CMLL’s Arena Mexico on Friday, August 2, and against Michael Oku in Rev Pro on Sunday, August 11.
