Matthew Stafford Supports WRs: What About His Fantasy Value

In the 2023 season, Stafford finished as QB15 but still struggled. He only had four games in which he scored over 20 fantasy points while only missing two games during the season (Weeks 9 and 18). Stafford may never be able to regain his consistent production with the Lions and his first season with the Rams.

However, due to Sean McVay's genius play calling and help from wide receivers Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp, Stafford has a middle-of-the-pack floor. Stafford's ceiling is slightly capped, but he did have 5 weeks in a row (Week 12-Week 16) of QB1 finishes (QB7, QB8, QB5, QB12, QB10). These weren't high-end scorers, but they were respectable if you are streaming the position.

He has also struggled with injuries over the last couple of years, and he will be 36 years old this year; it causes worry that he will miss some time this season. With the way Stafford's contract is set up, he will be with the Rams, no doubt, through the 2025 season, and the team has a way out of the contract in the 2026 season.

If he can not get back to form, these next two years could be difficult. However, he should be viewed as a QB2 in the upcoming season. He still holds some solid value in 2 QB leagues, but in 1 QB league, he could potentially be found on the waiver wire in leagues that don't have deep rosters.

Our consensus projections for Stafford in the 2024 season would be: 405 completions, 4592 yards, 29 touchdowns, 12 interceptions through the air, and 20 carries for 60 yards and 0 rushing touchdowns.
