Jones is coming off a season in which he only played six games due to two injuries, the most notable being tearing his ACL. In five of these games, Jones failed to produce higher than QB 24, while the one outlier was him finishing as QB 1 in Week 2. His struggles have many factors to blame, but they aren’t necessarily his fault. The main things to blame on him are his lack of arm strength and his high rate of turnovers.
However, the Giants may have had one of the worst Offensive Line and Wide Receiver rooms in the NFL. The front office addressed this by signing two guards (Jon Runyan and Jermaine Eluemunor) and drafting Malik Nabers with the 6th overall pick in the draft.
Besides Nabers, Jones does not have much other help (Wan'Dale and Hyatt are unproven), and that is because Nabers is also an unproven rookie. In 2022, Jones dealt with a similar lack of WRs and was still finished as QB9 with 700+ and 7 touchdowns rushing.
This made the Giants sign him to a 4-year extension with a $92 million guarantee. At first glance, this makes you think he will be locked down with the Giants, but there were rumors that the team was attempting to move on from him this offseason. This gives his future value some worry if he can not get back to form this season.
Even with his lack of arm talent, Jones does offer a lot of upside through his rushing ability as a quarterback. This, plus the help the team brought on, even if minimal, could allow Jones to get back to where you can at least put some trust in starting him. Jones will more than likely find himself on the waiver wire in a majority of 1 QB redraft leagues and should not have a draft pick wasted on him. He could be a useful piece for the right price in Dynasty formats, especially in Superflex.
Our consensus projections for Jones in the 2024 season would be: 365 completions, 3816 yards, 20 touchdowns, 11 interceptions through the air, and 93 carries for 521 yards and 5 rushing touchdowns.
