CRAWFORD COUNTY, Kan. (KOAM) -- The Crawford County, Kansas Sheriff's Office is warning residents about a new scam.

According to the office, citizens have reported receiving calls from someone pretending to be from the Sheriff's Office and saying they have a warrant for their arrest. They are also spoofing the Sheriff's Office phone number.

The Sheriff's Office says they will not call anyone to inform them of warrants or ask for money. Anyone that receives a call should simply hang up and don't give scammers any personal information.

The Crawford County, Kansas Sheriff's Office said the following via Facebook:

We are getting reports that the citizens are getting calls from someone pretending to be from the Sheriff’s Office and advising they have a warrant for their arrest. They are also spoofing the Sheriff’s Office phone number. Reminder, we do not call and advise people they have warrants and demand payment in any form to clear up the warrant. Simply hang up and do not give these scammers personal information. These calls are more than likely coming from another country.
