The captain will be an assistant ... for now. Jim Furyk on Wednesday officially added Keegan Bradley to his roster of vice captains for the 2024 Presidents Cup, which will be held this fall in Montreal. This after Bradley was recently named by the PGA of America as the United States' captain for the 2025 Ryder Cup, which will be held at Bethpage Black in New York next September.

"Keegan is a tremendous competitor with a bulldog mentality, and we are looking forward to having his voice in the team room in Montreal," Furyk said in a statement. "He has a strong passion for match play competition, and I know he will be an asset to our players in 2024, as well as 2025, as he leads them into Bethpage Black for the 2025 Ryder Cup."

It has been an interesting career turn for the 38-year-old Bradley, who won just one year ago on the PGA Tour and remains ranked No. 21 in the world. All of a sudden, he finds himself taking important non-playing roles for both the Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup despite still being a more-than-capable competitor and peer to many of the players he will be leading.

"I was ecstatic to get the call from Jim and looking forward to doing all I can to help our team in Montreal," Bradley said. "With the Ryder Cup on the horizon next year, this will be a great experience for me to understand the other side of the team room and how that camaraderie and coaching helps our guys play their best."

Bradley joins Stewart Cink, Justin Leonard and Kevin Kisner as vice captains for the Presidents Cup, which will be held Sept. 26-29.

It has been the norm for future team captains to serve as vice captains on either a Ryder Cup team or Presidents Cup team on the U.S. side over the last decade. So, while this is not necessarily a surprise given Bradley was named U.S. captain for the Ryder Cup, holding both a playing and coaching position simultaneously while still at a stage in his career where he can contend at significant events is fascinating.

By means of comparison, Kevin Durant ranked No. 21 in NBA win shares last season. Justin Herbert ranked No. 21 in NFL fantasy points scored. Jose Ramirez ranks No. 21 across the MLB in WAR this season. It's difficult to envision any of those three moving into a coaching role for a national team at this point in their careers.

Regardless, Bradley is clearly fired up for the opportunity to not only lead the U.S. team at the Ryder Cup but prepare for that role this fall at the Presidents Cup. He last played at the Presidents Cup in 2013 and currently ranks No. 17 in the Presidents Cup standings. The top six automatically earn roster spots with the qualification period ending after the BMW Championship in three weeks.
