A woman is trying to decide whether or not to go to her friends’ “man-free” wedding. She posted the story on Reddit, explaining that her friends Lisa and Sophie are getting married in a few months .

She’s known them for several years and is close with both of them. On the invitation, it said it was a “man-free” event. No men would be allowed at the ceremony .

She wrote: “Despite not being a man myself, I felt that it was a weird decision on their part.” The Reddit user texted Lisa’s brother asking if family was allowed to go, and he replied saying both he and Lisa’s father are not allowed at the wedding.

“He has no idea what prompted the rule, he says that at present it has (in my opinion understandably) turned into a whole family dispute.”

The situation weighed on her, and she decided not to attend the wedding. She called Lisa to tell her, and the Reddit user told her the truth – that she thinks the no men rule is weird and she doesn’t want to be involved.

She wrote: “I did not tell her that I contacted her brother, just that I'm not a fan of events segregated by gender.”

Lisa explained the wedding is supposed to be centered on women, and the user isn’t being a good friend by skipping. In response, she said even with men present, the ceremony would still be centered around women because the two people getting married are both women.

“She hung up and I have not heard from her since, but Sophie has been sending messages saying I have internalized misogyny.”

People agreed with the Reddit user in the replies.

One said: “I am [in my opinion] a hard core feminist, and to me that means advocating for equality amongst genders, not try to put men down to push women up... that's a horrible idea.”

Another wrote: “Imagine being a father and then your daughter tells you you’re not invited to her wedding because it’s women only.”
