IRVING, Texas — The company that now owns Ohio’s two nuclear plants, Davis-Besse in Ottawa County and Perry in Lake County, has received federal approval to extend the operating licenses of its two Texas-based nuclear plants by 20 years.

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission notified Ken J. Peters, Vistra Operations Co. senior vice president and chief nuclear officer, of the extensions for Commanche Peak 1 and 2 by letter on Tuesday.

Unit 1’s operating license will now expire Feb. 8, 2050, and Unit 2’s on Feb. 2, 2053.

Davis-Besse’s operating license expires April 22, 2037. It was extended in 2015.

    Perry’s operating license expires Nov. 7, 2026.
