The New England Patriots wasted no time on their day off from training camp.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the Patriots and defensive tackle Davon Godchaux have reached an agreement on a two-year extension worth up to $21 million. He gets $16.5 guaranteed.

This deal seemed like it was coming, especially with the presence of one individual at practice on Monday.

Drew Rosenhaus, Godchaux's agent, was at Gillette Stadium and was seen having conversations with very important members of the Patriots staff. He spoke with director of player personnel Matt Groh for a long time, and at one point, executive vice president of football business Robyn Glaser joined in.

Following practice, Rosenhaus and Godchaux spoke with head coach Jerod Mayo.

And it seems those conversations went very well.

Godchaux has not been quiet about his desire for a new contract, s peaking with the media last week. And he admitted that it was "frustrating" considering all the uncertainty.

"I just want some stability,” Godchaux added. "I want to feel some love too."

While it was difficult for the defensive tackle to watch the Patriots rewarded numerous other players this offseason, he was always very happy for them and cheered them on. Godchaux even remained optimistic that something could happen for him.

"I think so," Godchaux said. "I would love to retire here... My family loves it here. But we'll see. It's football heaven here. The greatest all time played here. So I would love to be here."

"It's been a lot of negotiation," he added. "It's been a lot of back and forth. But its not an even round right now. Hopefully we can get something done, but it's been definitely a negotiation. Definitely a lot of back and forth. Definitely hasn't been a standstill process. But hopefully we can get something that meets both our criteria and we both are happy."

And while Godchaux mentioned wanting to retire in New England, he isn't anywhere close to hanging up his cleats.

"I got a lot more years in me," Godchaux told reporters. "I'm healthy. I've been available every game my last three years here."

So now he can put all the contract stuff in the past. He's got the money he wants, so now it's time to play football.

Now we just have to wait and see what happens with linebacker Matthew Judon.
