There was a glimmer of hope that things between the New England Patriots and Matthew Judon were moving in the right direction.

But the linebacker put an end to that real quick.

It began when The Athletic's Dianna Russini reported that the Patriots had made an offer to Judon following his absence from practice on Tuesday.

A fan then tweeted at Judon in reaction to the news, asking the star to accept. That's when he spoke his mind.

"No they haven't but it makes me look bad again. Don't believe the lies," Judon's account posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.

That prompted another report from Russini.

"Matthew Judon was offered a few revised contracts from New England before training camp, they have yet to agree on a re-worked deal, per sources," she wrote.

And what adds an additional level to all this craziness is the timing of everything.

Right after Judon's reply, the news broke that DT Davon Godchaux and the Patriots agreed on a contract extension .

The team has made it an emphasis of extending their talent this offseason, but it was Judon and Godchaux who were still looking for a new deal. And the two were very outspoken about it.

But they still were out on the field to start training camp and were participating despite their frustration.

    That all changed on Monday.

Godchaux's agent, Drew Rosenhaus was at Gillette Stadium and made a very public appearance at practice. He had conversations with director of player personnel Matt Groh, and at one point, executive vice president of football business Robyn Glaser joined in. Following practice, Rosenhaus and Godchaux spoke with head coach Jerod Mayo.

So this had many thinking the the team and the defensive tackle might have gotten a deal done.

But while that seemed like it was one step closer, Judon's deal seemed as far away as ever.

The linebacker took the field and played his daily game of catch with the fans. But when practice started, he simply sat on some mats and watched. Head coach Jerod mayo made his way over and the two had a very animated conversation.

It ended with Judon leaving the field. And then the following day, Judon was no where to be found and it was even reported that he wasn't in the facility.

That led to a lot of speculation that Judon might be upset that everyone else is getting paid except for him. But nobody knows for sure.

Godchaux's deal is officially done, so let's see what happens with Judon.
