TRENTON, NJ -- Motorists who use the Route 1 Toll Bridge to cross from Trenton to Morrisville, Pennsylvania should expect delays on Thursday and Friday since the bridge will undergo repair work.
A travel advisory was issued on Wednesday by the Delaware Joint Toll Bridge Commission (DJTBC) noting that motorists could expect delays and backup on the southbound approach to the bridge in Trenton during off-peak daytime hours.
The Commission said that on Thursday, August 1 and Friday, August 2, between 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., two of the three lanes on the bridge will be open, beginning at milepost 0.6 in Trenton and extending to milepost 80.4 in Morrisville, PA. These restrictions, however, are subject to change because of weather, emergencies, and other factors.
During this work, Pennsylvania-bound Route 1 motorists are advised to use caution, slow down, and anticipate possible travel delays approaching the toll bridge from the New Jersey side.
The travel restrictions will allow the work crews to repair the concrete median.
The agency noted that these lane changes will be the first time that southbound travel restrictions are being utilized as part of a deck-sealing/paving/repair project that started in the vicinity of the bridge two weeks ago. They say that all prior project-related travel restrictions were in the northbound (New Jersey-bound) direction.
