Before the women's gymnastics individual finals, which are coming up this week, the USA women's team, consisting of Simone Biles, Suni Lee, Jordan Chiles, and Jade Carey, brought home gold at the all-around team final at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
This is Biles' fifth gold medal, with her previous four coming at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics. This also marked the second Olympic gold medal for both Lee and Carey and the first for Chiles.
On Wednesday, the USA women's gymnastics' Olympic triumph received a massive update in regard to viewership.
According to Gymnastics Now , the team final received an average of 12.7 million viewers on NBC and Peacock. This number ranks among the most-watched weekday Olympic events ever.
These numbers are wild, and they beat out some major sporting events from 2024, including the first round of the 2024 NFL draft and every game of the NBA Finals between the Boston Celtics and Dallas Mavericks.
The NFL draft received 12.1 million viewers, a 600,000 difference. Game 2 of the NBA Finals had the highest viewership of all five games, with 12.31 million viewers, nearly a 400,000 difference. The average for all five final games was 11.31 million.
Team USA finished the women's all-around team final with a total score of 171.296. Through four rotations, including the vault, uneven bars, balance beam, and floor exercise, in that order, Biles tallied 58.332 points, and Chiles secured 55.465.
Lee participated in the final three rotations for the USA and secured a score of 42.699. Carey only participated in the vault (rotation one) and received a score of 14.800.

Biles and Lee will compete in the next women's gymnastics event, the all-around final, on Thursday, August 1. Biles will also compete in the vault, balance beam, and floor finals. Lee will join her at the balance beam final and will be the lone USA gymnast at the uneven bars final.
Chiles secured her spot in the floor exercise final at the Olympic qualifiers on Sunday, while Carey will participate in the vault.
