    Hanover County Public Schools to require clear bags at high school stadiums and gyms

    HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Hanover County Public Schools has announced that it will change its requirements for bags brought to sports games and events held at high school stadiums and gyms.

    The school system said the requirement takes effect on Thursday, Aug. 1.

    Each spectator can bring in the following:

    • One clear tote bag no larger than 12 inches by 6 inches by 12 inches or a 1-gallon clear, resealable plastic bag
    • One small clutch purse for privacy no larger than 5 inches by 7 inches

    Guests that arrive at a high school stadium or gym entrance with prohibited bags or items won’t be allowed to enter the venue, according to the division.

    The following bags will now be prohibited:

    • Purses, bags, backpacks, cinch bags, mesh bags or containers larger than a small clutch
    • Briefcases, computer bags or luggage
    • Binocular cases
    • Fanny packs
    • Grocery bags, trash bags or tinted plastic bags

    The following are other prohibited items, according to Hanover County Public Schools:

    • All tobacco products, like e-cigarettes, vapes, Juuls, smokeless tobacco, cigars and cigarettes
    • Weapons and drugs, including marijuana or marijuana products, and alcohol
    • Coolers
    • Outside food and drinks, though 1 store-bought sealed water bottle is allowed
    • Laser pointers and flag poles
    • Animals that are not service animals
