New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

The build-up to the 2024 NFL training camps featured numerous noteworthy storylines, some more head-scratching than others.

One such storyline was what seemed to be a never-ending trade rumor about a reunion between Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams and New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

The buzz surrounding this ramped back up just before training camps got underway, largely thanks to a comment made by Rodgers during a celebrity golf tournament. The 40-year-old signal-caller told a reporter, "I love Davante. Can't wait to play with him again," as ESPN's Rich Cimini rehashed.

On Wednesday during Jets training camp, Rodgers was asked about that comment and the longtime teammate of Adams cleared the air a bit. He called the reporter asking the initial question "a tad bit irritating" and said he wanted to "just give him something and get rid of him," per Cimini.

"Well, I do love Davante, for sure," Rodgers said. "That particular [reporter] was a tad bit irritating. Those are things where it's like somebody is asking the same question over and over and over, and I just give him something and get rid of them."

While smiling, Rodgers added, "Yeah, but I think I was talking about golf."

There was never much reason to put stock into the chatter surrounding the idea of Adams landing with the Jets. Adams boasts the sixth-highest annual salary among wide receivers at $28 million per year, while the Jets currently sit with the fourth-lowest-available salary-cap space in the NFL.

There are still ways to navigate something like this, but the Jets appear to be in a decent position ahead of the 2024 season at wide receiver.

Rodgers will have one of the NFL's budding stars at wide receiver, Garrett Wilson, as his top option, and the team also signed former Los Angeles Chargers wideout Mike Williams. Allen Lazard had a disappointing 2023 season with Rodgers sidelined, catching 23 passes for 311 yards and one score. Still, he and Rodgers have a great rapport, and the WR is in a prime position to bounce back in 2024.
