Impact Wide Receiver Dismissed From College Football Playoff Favorite

The Georgia Bulldogs will be without one of their top wide receivers in 2024.

Head coach Kirby Smart announced the dismissal of senior wideout Rara Thomas on Thursday as UGA prepares to begin fall camp. The senior transfer was arrested last week for his second domestic violence arrest since joining the program in the 2023 offseason out of Mississippi State.

Thomas caught 23 passes for 383 yards and a touchdown in his first season as a Bulldog. He was expected to fill the void left by Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint, who is entering his rookie NFL season with the Washington Commanders.

Smart revealed that he met with Thomas after his release from jail on Tuesday.

“He can no longer be part of the football team," Smart said. "He understands that. We wish him the best moving forward.”

Now, the favorite to make the College Football Playoff is facing a unique challenge with less than a month before it kicks off the season against Clemson on Aug. 31 in Atlanta.

There will be more pressure on UGA's transfer additions and young players at the position. Dillon Bell has the versatility to play at each position. The Bulldogs added Colbie Young (Miami) this offseason. He could be the answer at the X-receiver position. London Humphreys (Vanderbilt) will also compete for the role.
