Storm hits women using flotation devices in lake, killing both, South Dakota cops say

Two women were floating in a lake as severe storms swept through the Midwest on July 31, eventually reaching them in South Dakota, deputies said.

The strong winds created dangerous waves that overcame the two women as they floated, according to the Kingsbury County Sheriff’s Office.

One woman was found lying on the shore of Lake Henry, according to deputies. As first responders and deputies arrived, they found the second woman also on the shore nearby.

CPR was performed at the scene before both women were rushed to the hospital, where they died, deputies said.

The sheriff’s office did not release the names of the victims or other information about them.

More than 300,000 people in the Midwest were affected by power outages in the early morning hours of Aug. 1 due to severe thunderstorms, according to Newsweek.

Lake Henry is about a 75-mile drive southwest of Sioux Falls.
