(WOWK) — The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch until midnight (12:00 a.m. August 2, 2024) for a large part of eastern Kentucky and West Virginia.

A severe thunderstorm *watch* means that the conditions are right for a severe thunderstorm.

Wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour, isolated hail up to half inch size and frequent lightning are possible in this area.

The total estimate of people included in the watch area is just over 1 million people.

If a severe thunderstorm *warning* is issued for your area, please move indoors, into a sturdy shelter, move away from windows and avoided using plugged-in appliances or devices.
