Quentin Johnston Tittering On Fantasy Bust Status

Quentin Johnston was drafted 21st overall in last year’s draft and had a brutal rookie season with the Chargers, catching 38 of 67 targets for 431 yards (11.34 yards per reception) and 2 touchdowns. Johnston had the chance to start 10 games with zero target competition due to veteran WRs Keenan Allen and Mike Willams suffering from injuries.

Without the other WRs, Johnston struggled with drops and averaged only 0.88 yards per route, finishing with only 431 yards and a 7.1% drop rate. He only recorded over 30 yards in four of 17 games played. Multiple key offense members, including WRs Keenan Allen and Mike Williams, TE Gerald Everett, and RB Austin Eckeler, departed.

This gives Johnston the opportunity to learn from other starters. Having the experience of working with QB Justin Herbert may actually work in Johnston’s favor in the target competition this season. Other than the glaring skill issue, this offense will be run-heavy under Harbaugh.

The other issue is that the regime went right back into the draft with a top-end draft pick to take Ladd McConkey. Spending that type of capital two years in a row on the same position typically doesn't bode well for the one who was drafted first. Johnston is currently ranked at WR68 with an ADP of 13.9. Try to avoid him if you can.

Our consensus projections for QJ in the 2024 season would be: 41 receptions, 538 yards, 4 touchdowns.
