Bust Or Breakout For Jahan Dotson Fantasy Season?

Jahan Dotson came into last season with a lot of hype after a really solid rookie season. However, he was a disappointment in his second season. On 83 targets, he made 49 receptions for 518 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns.

He wasn’t terrible, as he put up solid stats, but from the expectations many analysts gave him, it was definitely a flop, which hurt a ton of fantasy managers who believed he would have a year two breakout. In 12 games in his rookie year, Dotson scored 130.60 fantasy points. In 17 games in 2023, he had 124.80 fantasy points.

He had more targets and receptions in 2023, but he only scored 4 touchdowns, not 7, and his yards per catch went from a robust 14.94 to a 10.57. To be successful in the WR2 role, he needs to be in an offense that pushes the ball downfield; big plays and touchdowns are his game, not chain mover with intense volume.

One thing that easily improves his fantasy stock is the quarterback change. Sam Howell was terrible last season, and now, with Jayden Daniels as the QB, it's definitely an upgrade if he is developed properly. The other thing is Kliff Kingsberry, who has a history of a productive air raid offense.

He should also be used more now that Curtis Samuel is gone. However, the Commander did use a third-round pick on Luke McCaffrey, and he could get more snaps if he stands out. As for Dotson, he could be a steal in fantasy drafts and more of a red zone threat. A late-round pick in any PPR league would be a solid gamble to stash him on your team.

Our consensus projections for Dotson in the 2024 season are 65 receptions, 764 yards, and 6 touchdowns.
