Giants Owner 'Still Happy' Over Polarizing $160 Million QB Decision

The New York Giants shocked the NFL world before the 2023 season when they signed quarterback Daniel Jones to a massive four-year, $160 million deal, with $82 million guaranteed. That came after a career campaign the year prior, but things didn't go to plan in '23.

Jones barely played due to injuries and when he did, the signal-caller went just 1-5 as the starter. Despite that, Giants co-owner John Mara has no regret s about giving Jones the bag and believes the 27-year-old will bounce back in the upcoming season.

“I’m still happy we gave him that contract, because I thought he played really well for us in ’22,” Mara said, via Jordan Raanan of ESPN. “Last year, he got hurt. Let’s be honest, when he was playing, we weren’t blocking anybody. So, let’s give him a chance with a better offensive line, with some weapons around him to see what he can do.

Mara added, "I was nervous about giving up too much to go and get a quarterback, but I was prepared to let them do that if that’s what they wanted to do. We made a decision to stay with Daniel and add a weapon for him, and I think that’s going to work out for us."

The Giants have improved the roster around Jones, drafting Malik Nabers out of LSU with their first pick to be the new WR1. Up front, New York also strengthened the offensive line.

Regardless, the G-Men have had one winning season with Jones at the helm. If he doesn't play better in 24', Jones will likely be looking for a new home.
