Suni Lee Gets Emotional After Strong Message From WNBA Legend

While it was Simone Biles who stole the show in Wednesday's gymnastics all-around final, Suni Lee also made sure that she would not come home empty-handed.

Lee entered the competition as the defending champion after winning gold in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. While she ultimately conceded the gold medal to Biles, Lee's incredible floor routine secured a podium finish for the 21-year-old.

Lee came up big in the clutch to score a 13.666 in the final event of the all-around final, thereby surpassing Italy's Alice D'Amato for the third and final podium spot. Finishing with the silver was Rebeca Andrade of Brazil, who herself had to settle for second after a tremendous performance from Biles.

For her part, Lee could not help but get emotional after becoming just the second American woman to win a medal in the Olympic all-around final twice. Shortly after the event, the decorated U.S. gymnast took to X, formerly Twitter, to share her reaction to a special shoutout from WNBA legend Dawn Staley, who is currently the head coach of defending NCAA women's basketball champs South Carolina Gamecocks.

"OMGGGG i’m fangirling rn !!!😭😭😭❤️" Lee wrote in response to Staley's reaction to her stunning all-around final performance.

Staley, a five-time WNBA All-Star who was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2013, then revealed how big of a fan she is of Lee.

"That’s me with you! Super proud of you! Love that medal smile!! Keep me great, SUNI!!!" she wrote.
