MLB Comes Out With A Flexible World Series Schedule, Paving The Way For Other Leagues To Do The Same

One of the most frustrating aspects of sports is the wait for a postseason series to start, especially when the preceding ones end quickly. The NBA has experienced this problem in the past.

The NBA Finals have a set start date and will not be moved, no matter what happens. The conference finals series could end in four games, and the NBA will not push the start date even though it could be almost two weeks between games.

It is a major flaw the league doesn't want to fix, but Major League Baseball released a new World Series Flex schedule on Thursday that could lead the NBA to do the same.

MLB 2024 Postseason

The MLB trade deadline ended on Tuesday evening; before you know it, the postseason will be here, and the playoff schedule was released on Thursday afternoon.

• NL and AL Wild Card Series: October 1-3

• ALDS: October 5-12

• NLDS: October 5-11

• ALCS: October 14-22

• NLCS: October 13-21

• World Series: October 25-November 2

Unlike the NBA, the MLB playoffs last about a month, and a new rule that was put in place could make the playoffs even shorter. If the NLCS and ALCS both end by October 19th, the World Series would start on October 22nd and finish on October 30th instead of the October 25th start date that is currently scheduled.

There is no need to have almost a week off between series if both championship series wrap up quickly. The MLB has done much wrong in recent years, but they got this flex schedule right.

Hopefully, other leagues will follow the MLB's example and implement the same plan for their postseason schedules.
