Cowboys swing and miss in attempting to replace injured Sam Williams

The Dallas Cowboys lost defensive end Sam Williams to a torn ACL this past week. They were expected to host several free agents for potential replacements for the team. They did and ended up signing two free agents, which are less than enthusiastic moves for the franchise.

The Dallas Cowboys are expected to sign both Shaka Toney and Al-Quadin Muhammad for the season. Both men have several things in common. One of which is that they play the same position, and the other is that they both came off suspensions from the NFL last season.

Muhammad was suspended for six games due to a failed drug test, and Toney was suspended indefinitely in 2023 for breaking the league’s gambling policy before being reinstated in 2024.

The moves they made are not big-name players, they aren’t well-established players either, but they do offer the team not to be reliant on one over the other.

These signings could prove that the team believes in second-round pick Marshawn Kneeland to have a bigger impact than expected. The Western Michigan defensive end had a tremendous draft process and aced several steps before falling to round two. The Cowboys drafted him and never looked back.

It will be easy for Kneeland to stand out alongside Muhammad and Toney, now, all that is left is for him to take the necessary actions.
