    I’m Not Kidding When I Say That Matt Damon And His Wife Luciana Barroso’s Romance Needs To Be Turned Into A Hollywood Movie ASAP

    On Wednesday, Matt Damon made a rare public appearance with his entire family as he was joined by his wife and their four daughters at the premiere for his latest movie, The Instigators .

    The 53-year-old actor has also opened up about being the ultimate “girl dad” in recent days, and reflected on his 18-year-old daughter, Isabella, heading off to college this fall .

    In another interview, Matt admitted that he only took the script for The Instigators seriously after his wife, Luciana Barroso, encouraged him to.

    Speaking to People , Matt said that Luciana, his best friend Ben Affleck , and Ben’s brother Casey Affleck are the three people that he depends on for advice, saying of Luciana “like Casey and like Ben” he “just trusts her taste.”

    "So when they say something, when they dig their heels in on something — any of them do — I pay attention," he added. "We all have blind spots, creatively or otherwise. And, when I see somebody that I agree with so much feeling strongly about something, I look really carefully at it."

    And this is just one layer to his and Luciana’s seriously wholesome 21-year relationship, with the two first meeting in a Miami bar where she was working way back in 2003.

    As mentioned, the two first met in 2003, and at this point, 32-year-old Matt was already a well-established Hollywood star and A-list celebrity.

    Matt was in Miami to shoot the movie Stuck On You when he and the crew went into the bar where Luciana worked for a drink — and she ended up providing refuge when he started to get hounded by fans.

    Recalling the moment he first saw his now-wife, Matt said during a 2011 appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show : “I literally saw her across a crowded room, literally. Eight years and four kids later, that's my life. I don't know how else our paths would've crossed if that didn't happen."

    At the time, Luciana, who was born in Argentina, was a single mom to her daughter, Alexia, and recently divorced from Alexia’s father.

    Speaking in a rare interview with Vogue Australia in 2018, Luciana said of that fateful day: “Matt's story is that he saw me across the room and there was a light on me. And I'm like, 'Yeah, it was a nightclub — there were lights everywhere!’”

    "He had started getting recognized and asked for pictures and autographs, and then it got kind of aggressive because people are drinking and stuff," she added. "So he came and hid behind the bar … [wanting to] just hang out back there and have a drink. He says, 'Oh, I saw you and I really wanted to talk to you.’”

    But Luciana put Matt to work, telling him: “You can’t just be standing there!” Before long, Matt was making drinks and “made a ton of money in tips that night” because “everyone wanted to go and see him.”

    “It turned into a really fun night,” Luciana recalled, also telling Vogue Australia that they “had a connection right away” and were immediately “very comfortable” with one another.

    “By the end of the night, he invited me to go out with his friends," she said. "But I was like: 'I can't, I have a four-year-old daughter, I'm not going anywhere' … and that was one of the things he loved, that I had a daughter."

    Luciana added that she never really saw Matt as a celebrity, sharing: “When you meet somebody that you have a connection with, that's just the person that you have a connection with, all the other stuff — the movie-star part — wasn't really a factor. It was just Matt, to me he's just Matt."

    And Matt has previously said that he was “lucky” to fall in love with somebody who isn’t famous as it helps to keep media interest in their lives at bay. He told Esquire : “I got lucky. I fell in love with a civilian. Not an actress and not a famous actress at that. Because then the attention doesn't double — it grows exponentially."

    “[Paparazzi] can try to stake me out, but they're always going to get the same story: middle-aged married guy with four kids,” he added.

    Matt and Luciana got married in December 2005 and welcomed their first child together, Isabella, now 18, in 2006. Matt and Luciana are also mom and dad to 15-year-old Gia and 13-year-old Stella, with Matt proud stepfather to Alexia, who is now 26 years old.

    And Matt has previously opened up about how he and Luciana make their relationship work in spite of his demanding work schedule, revealing that they never spend longer than two weeks apart.

    "We have a two-week rule. I'm not away for more than two weeks," he told YourTango in 2014. "I think you need to be with the person you love as much as possible. My wife is my soul mate. I don't like being apart from her."

    The importance that the couple place on spending time together was also highlighted when Matt starred in Oppenheimer just last year, with the star admitting that he’d promised Luciana that he’d take time off work before Christopher Nolan came calling.

    Speaking to Entertainment Weekly , Matt revealed that Luciana had wanted him to take a break after a busy few years, he added: "This is going to sound made up, but it's actually true. I had — not to get too personal — negotiated extensively with my wife that I was taking time off.”

    “This is without knowing whether or not [Christopher Nolan] was working on anything, because he never tells you,” he explained. “He just calls you out of the blue. And so, it was a moment in my household."

    Suffice to say, Matt took the role, and thankfully it didn’t appear to have too much of an impact on his family life, with this week’s premiere photos proving that Luciana and their girls are still Matt’s biggest cheerleaders.
