Manchester United's stance on selling Scott McTominay after third transfer bid received

Fulham has made a third attempt to sign Manchester United's Scott McTominay .

The Scotland international has a year left on his deal at Old Trafford and is said to be available this summer. The Cottagers have submitted a $29 million (£23m/€27m) bid for the United midfielder, which is their third of the transfer window.

Previously, the Manchester Evening News had reported United had turned down offers for the midfielder who was of interest to Premier League rival West Ham United a year ago. The Hammers made a bid of $38 million (£30m/€35m) for him last summer, which United rejected due to wanting more money for McTominay.

However, with the 27-year-old now out of contract next summer, United is now reportedly open to selling the midfielder, who, in the age of PSR (profitability and sustainability rules), would count as pure profit thanks to his academy graduate status.

Alongside Fulham's interest, Turkish giant Galatasaray is also keen on McTominay. United is now reportedly willing to consider offers between $31 million (£25m/€29m) and $38 million (£30m/€35m) despite McTominay's impressive performances last season where he netted 10 goals and played a key role in the team's FA Cup final victory against Manchester City.

Fenerbahce, currently managed by Jose Mourinho, is interested in McTominay but is not ready to meet United's asking price. McTominay made his debut for United under Mourinho back in May 2017.

Despite the speculation, club insiders insist that McTominay is a valuable squad player and manager Erik ten Hag has expressed his desire to retain the Scotland international.

But with his contract set to expire next year, his resale value is unlikely to remain as high as it currently is. United has an option to extend his deal for a year, but that only kicks the can down the road for another season, with McTominay turning 29 during the 2025/26 campaign next term.

United do not expect to receive a fee close to the bids it asked for McTominay last year. The academy graduate ended up staying at United last year after fellow midfielder Kobbie Mainoo suffered a pre-season ankle injury that kept him out for four months.

Liverpool.com says: Surely the powers that be at Manchester United must realise that selling McTominay this summer is the smartest move - provided the club can bring in a midfielder to replace him. The Scotland international will turn 28 in December and his resale value won't be as high next term either.

While the club has an option to extend his deal by another year, McTominay represents pure profit in the age of PSR to United. Yes, it's an ugly way to look at football, but the reality is United won't get a better price for the midfielder than it will this summer."
