Jonnu Smith: Used Properly & Can Still Bust For Fantasy

In 2023, Jonnu Smith came off of his second-best fantasy season, where he finished as TE 17 (his previous best being TE 16 in 2020). In 2023, Smith was traded to the Falcons, where he was expected to back up Kyle Pitt. However, in some weeks, he was used far more than Pitts was. Smith scored a career-high in receptions (50) and receiving yards (582).

In a surprising offseason move from the Falcons, Smith was released. He was shortly signed to a two-year deal with the Dolphins. This may seem like a solid landing spot due to Miami’s lack of tight-end competition, but with Mike McDaniels as the Dolphins coach, the team has never been big on targeting the TE position.

Smith will also be competing to get targets against a great Wide Receiver room of Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, and Odell Beckham Jr. Smith has never been the most consistent player as he has never topped 600 yards, but is definitely capable of being a spot start if your team lacks a solid tight end. Going into the 2024 season, Smith should be viewed as a backend TE2.

Our consensus projections for Smith in the 2024 season are 31 receptions, 367 yards, and 2 touchdowns.
