NBA insider Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium is regarded as one of the two top reporters for breaking major news about the league, alongside his former mentor Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN .

The 30-year-old's X account (formerly Twitter) is arguably the leading source of updates for NBA fans, especially during the free agency period.

With the offseason winding down and the 2024-25 NBA season on the horizon, Charania took time to appear on The OGs Show , a podcast hosted by former NBA players Mike Miller and Udonis Haslem.

Speaking as a fan of the game, Charania dropped a personal hot take about the never-ending conversation about who is the greatest basketball player of all time, moving away from the popular choice of Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan.

"So for me, growing up, like when MJ won his six championships, I was four years old. It's hard for me to watch the YouTube videos and watch the game videos like it's an experience. I feel like the greatest of all time is an experience. For me growing up, Kobe was someone that I watched very closely," the co-host of FanDuel TV's Run It Back said.

Charania expanded on his opinion by explaining why he considers The Black Mamba to be the greatest of all time, opening up about his Pakistani origin and how he resonates with some of the qualities of the late Los Angeles Lakers legend.

"The Mamba Mentality, the killer instinct. I feel like some of those attributes, I felt like as a young minority, parents from a Pakistani background. I felt like I could apply some of that in my daily life. You know, the killer mentality and just go get it every single day. So, for me, that was something I gravitated toward."

Being one of the NBA's top news breakers, it is no surprise that Charania works around the clock to get the latest scoops around the association.

The Chicago native revealed last year via an Instagram post during the first week of the 2023 NBA free agency that he averaged 19 hours and 1 minute of screen time during that period.

During the same summer, he also added that his screen time dropped to 14 hours after taking a vacation, still twice the US national average of 7 hours and 3 minutes.
